It was only recently that we reviewed the “$365k Blog Traffic Formula” and I will keep this brief since there is not much to explain. Don’t get me wrong, I am not knocking the content of this ebook. In fact, we found the information to be comprehensive, yet easy to read and understand and is a wealth of good tips and insight.

A lot of the techniques they use are reflected  right there.  That is what the ebook is all about; Seven (7) of the top pro-bloggers reveal their secrets to success, how they attract traffic and exactly where they get it from. The Power of RSS to Create More Back Links

RSS For More Backlinks

RSS is one of the most underutilized communication strategies that offer you the ability to rapidly generate targeted traffic to your website. Some people believe RSS, an acronym for “really simple syndication”, is a better form of communication than email. Although I use a number of different techniques to distribute content, there are many variations that use RSS to make sure their articles are distributed quickly and without any impediments that you might typically incur while using email marketing. Another words, don’t think just because your email was sent, that it gets to the recipient or that it gets read.

I mention email since it is the most prevalent and profitable forms of content distribution. But there can be a number of hurdles and impediments when using email. I don’t discourage you from using email. In fact, I believe a combination of both, email and RSS is the best balance and the most logical for your business plan. I personally use both strategies and encourage you to do the same. Try to focus on one strategy at a time until you understand it thoroughly and you are using it on a regular basis. Then move on to the other techniques. Here, we are focusing on RSS technology and the various strategies you can use to get targeted traffic to your website.

You’ve most likely seen the “RSS” symbol on many websites. WordPress blogs have RSS technology already built into their software. Whenever you create a post and publish it, you’ve created an RSS feed as well. Even if you are using a static website, you can invest in an inexpensive script that you can download to your server and add the same RSS technology to your website.

Some people use an RSS aggregator to stay current on news or to get updates from their favorite websites. This is how RSS has been used in the past and is still used in this manner. But there are some really effective ways to use RSS feed submissions so that you increase page rank, get top search engine placement and do it rather quickly. Much  of your competition doesn’t know about RSS feed submission or if they do, they don’t know how to use it which means you can literally skip right over your competitors and that may be all you need to get that top search engine placement.

I don’t want to bore you with all the details of RSS technology but I need to include enough so you understand how it works. I promise to keep it brief and I included a short video that will explain the basics. I believe you can understand the basics of RSS better this way than by someone trying to explain it in writing. Watch the video first and then finish reading the article.

There are literally millions of programs that can read and use this standard documented format and that are what makes RSS so easy to use.  An RSS feed is basically a file containing a description of one or possibly more web pages. Only recently has RSS feed technology been available on static websites. However, the technology has been around for more than ten years.

Entire websites are developed just for RSS. Their primary mission is to gather information from other websites.  They want and encourage you to send them your RSS feeds so they can distribute them for you and the cost is free. Google, the premier search engine itself, invested millions purchasing a major RSS website called Feedburner. This is obviously a good sign since you know they did their homework before spending hundreds of millions of dollars on future technology. So if entire sites are setting themselves up to use RSS and Google is heavily investing in RSS technology, then this is something that all marketers should consider using as a marketing tool for creating web traffic and to increase page rank.

Here is how it works; any time you submit your RSS feed files to these websites such as blogdigger.com; newsisfree.com; feedagg.com or feedage.com and thousands more, they store this file on their servers and provide a back link (a link back to your website).  And because google loves new content, they visit these sites more often than static sites; as a result they rank these websites more prominently in the search engines. The end result is your blog gets found by more people, either indirectly by the link on the RSS aggregator website, or directly in their search since your website now ranks better because of the links from the these RSS websites.

In the past it was time consuming to submit each of these feeds individually to these websites.  But software is constantly coming out that will greatly reduce the time necessary to submit your feeds. Early versions of RSS software would require you to manually create RSS feed files and to specify which sites to submit. Although this was a quicker process than a purely manual one, it would still end up being a time consuming process.

More recent versions of the software actually create RSS feeds automatically and also submit automatically to the RSS aggregator websites every time you post.  There are versions of the software that work as a desktop application (software you keep your computer), or on a server.  There are even versions of the software that work with the most popular blog platform on the internet, WordPress.

Still more versions of the software allow you to merge feeds (create a new RSS feed from two or more existing feeds) and to then allow you to submit that for more backlinks and more rankings!

You can take the time to research the more popular RSS directories by doing a simple Google search. Or you can invest in some inexpensive and simple software at that will automatically send your content to as many as 20 popular RSS submission sites every time you publish a post. It’s easy to set up and saves you a heap of time by doing in a minute what would take you an hour every time you publish a post. The software will send you a report via email showing each feed submission and whether it was successful or not.

I use the software and I have found it to be one of my best tools in my arsenal for backlinks.  Like I said earlier, there are a number of strategies pertaining to RSS and how you can use it to effectively increase your backlinks. This is one of the more popular and easier strategies that you can implement right now and get results right away.
